Privacy

Short version: I measure how people move through this site so I can make it better. No ad networks, and nothing sold. This page is the long version, in plain language.

What’s measured

PostHog. Product analytics: which pages get read, how far down, and what gets clicked. It only runs if you choose “Accept all” in the cookie notice. It records your visit as a session so I can see where people get stuck, and anything you type into a form is hidden in the recording. It sets a cookie to tell one visit from the next. Data is processed by PostHog on US servers. I use this to understand how the site is used — not to identify you. PostHog isn’t told who you are, and it never records your account pages.

What it isn’t

  • Nothing is sold, rented, or shared for advertising. There are no ad networks or marketing pixels on this site.
  • No one is being profiled. Browsing is anonymous. I only know who you are if you ask for a price, contact me or sign in.
  • Nothing follows you off this site. None of this tracks you across the wider web.

Your choices

  • Cookie settings. On your first visit you choose “Accept all” or “Only necessary”. Only necessary means PostHog never loads: no analytics, no recording, no cookie. Change your mind any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page. The site itself sets no cookies; it remembers your age answer and your cookie choice in your browser’s own storage, which stays on your device.
  • Do Not Track. If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, PostHog honors it and records nothing. Most browsers have this in privacy settings.
  • A content blocker. Any standard privacy extension (uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger, and most others) blocks PostHog outright. The site works exactly the same with them blocked.
  • Just ask. Email me and I’ll answer any question about what’s collected, or delete what I can tie to you.

When you contact me

You can reach me two ways: a form on this site, or a plain email link to transfers@oldjohnsonfirearms.com and sales@oldjohnsonfirearms.com.

If you use the form, it collects what you type — your name, email, phone if you add it, the firearm and shipping dealer, a tracking number, your message — and emails it to me. The form runs on this site’s own server (no third-party form service), and what you send is used only to answer you and handle your transaction. If you email me directly instead, I receive your email address and whatever you choose to send. Either way, I don’t sell it, rent it, or add you to a marketing list. Replies to the contact form come from transfers@oldjohnsonfirearms.com; quotes and order updates come from sales@oldjohnsonfirearms.com.

Price quotes

When you ask for a price on Find a Firearm, you give me your name, your email address and the gun you’re asking about. I use your email address to send your price and to answer you, and nothing else. I keep the request and the price I quoted so I can honor it and see it again if you come back.

You don’t need an account to ask for a price.

Your account

You need an account to order a gun or to follow an order, a transfer or a custom build. The account holds:

  • your name, email address and phone number. I use the phone number to set up pickup and for nothing else;
  • the quotes you’ve asked for, the orders you’ve placed, the transfers I’m handling for you and any build, with the status of each, tracking numbers and pickup times;
  • what you’ve paid and what’s still due.

Signing in is handled by Google’s Firebase Authentication. You can sign in with your Google account, with a link I email you, or with an email and password. Firebase checks who you are and tells this site only that it’s you. I never see or store a password. Staying signed in uses Firebase’s storage in your browser; that is necessary for the account and isn’t tracking. If you use Google, Google shares your name and email address with me, and nothing else.

On the account pages, the session recording described above is off. PostHog doesn’t record what’s in your account.

Orders and payments

When you order, I keep the order: the gun, the price, how you paid, and each step until you pick it up. Payments are recorded by amount, method and date only. This site never takes or stores a card number.

I keep order and payment records as long as I need them for tax and business records.

Email from me

Once you’ve ordered, I email you at each step: when it’s ordered, shipped, arrived and ready. These come from sales@oldjohnsonfirearms.com. They’re about your order, not marketing. There’s no mailing list.

I keep a short record of each email I send you (when, the subject, and whether it was delivered) for 90 days, so I can tell when one doesn’t reach you. I also keep a copy of each email until it’s delivered, and never more than a day, so one that bounces can be sent again.

Deleting your account

Email me and I’ll close your account and delete what I can. I keep order and payment records for as long as the law and my records require, and nothing tied to a firearm transfer is kept here at all.

Information collected in person

This is separate from the website. When you complete a transfer, you fill out a federal Form 4473 and I run a background check. That information is collected and kept the way federal firearms law requires — not as website data, and not used for any other purpose. The Compliance & Policy page covers how transfers work.

If you ask me to watch for a gun that’s out of stock, I keep your name, how to reach you and the gun you want. I delete it about a month after it’s found or you tell me to stop.

Sharing

I don’t sell or share your information with advertisers or data brokers. The only parties that touch website data are the service providers that make the site run — the hosts that run this site and its back office, the email provider that carries my mail, Google Firebase for sign-in, the carriers whose tracking I pass on for transfers, and the analytics tools named above — and only to do their job. Information tied to a firearm transfer is disclosed only as the law requires.

Children

This site and business are intended for adults. It isn’t directed to children, and I don’t knowingly collect information from them.
